There are several different types of heart diseases that exist today , and we are going to look at the list of diseases of the heart together, so lets go;
1.High blood pressure (Hypertension) - Many of us of heard this many times! This type of heart disease also known as the silent killer since it does not exhibit symptoms. We can say one has high blood pressure when the systolic blood pressure reads above 140 (higher) or diastolic (lower ) number reading of 90.
Risk factors of getting high blood pressure includes;
2. Heart attack - This another heart disease which takes place when the blood flow to a part of your heart is restricted or blocked for a longer period of time to the extent that part of the heart muscle is damaged.
It is important to avoid sedentary lifestyle and adopt a healthy lifestyle such as good eating and exercise.
Avoid foods rich in saturated fats and cholesterol as they are capable of blocking the blood vessels or arteries by building up around the walls , and after a while it restrict blood flow thus straining your heart and there is high chances of heart attack.
3. Rheumatic heart disease - This type of heart disease causes damage to the entire heart and its membranes. Rheumatic heart disease is one of the dreaded and usually takes place when an individual has an episode of acute rheumatic fever.
Who is at the risk of getting this disease?, well rheumatic fever which is not common in North America can actually occur in children who have had strep infections that were either untreated or inadequately treated.
4. Pulmonary heart disease - Which occurs after an abnormal pressure on the lungs as a result of poor blood flow to the area. It is vital to consult a medical doctor if you happen to experience frequent shortness of breath and chest pain.
5. Tachycardia - This is a condition where your heart races than normal heart rate. And a healthy adult normally has a heart beat of between 60 to 100 times per minute when he/she is at rest.
It is important to consult your doctor whenever you happen to have a longer fast heart rate when at rest and not due to activity. Tachycardia can seriously cause disruption to normal heart function and increase the chances of getting a stroke , sudden cardiac arrest or even death.
Now that we have looked at the list of heart diseases and disorders, it is your responsibility to take good care of your body and health by living a healthy lifestyle that embraces exercise and good nutrition.
